Where Is Your Next Vacation?

If you’ve gone through the supermarket or drug store lately, you’ve probably come across a display ad for Calgon soaps. Most of these ads feature attractive young women with dreamy expressions on their faces and the catchphrase: “Calgon! Take me away!”

And if you’re like many of us, the ad probably inspires thoughts of a well-deserved vacation. The cold weather many of us are facing, the deadlines and the pile of work we have waiting for us back at the office, don’t help turn our thoughts away either.

So what type of vacation will it be this year?

Will it be that tropical getaway you’ve always envisioned, an unexpected excursion to the unknown or a rough-and-ready adventure that takes you back to your childhood camping days?

Whatever your choice, here are 4 vacation ideas that may suit your needs:

Iceland. We were just talking about cold and snow, so why would we mention a place that has ice in its name? Well for one, it’s not as icy as you might think due to the ocean current and the numerous volcanic hot springs that warm the island. And two, it’s a far cry from the usual beach and mountains you’re used to. Iceland features stunning landscapes, a lively nightlife in the capital city of Reykjavik and a close-up look at the aurora borealis.

Trinidad and Tobago. If you want a Caribbean island vacation, this is it. This locale offers beautiful scenery and plenty of beaches. Since it’s a little off the beaten path, it’s not as “touristy,” and it’s less expensive than other Caribbean islands.

Catskill Mountains.  Beaches or mountain? It’s a tough call sometimes, but if mountains win out, then the Catskills of New York may be for you. Whether fly fishing from a mountain stream, enjoying the spectacular beauty of the rushing waterfalls, or taking time out to sample some cuisine at one of the many restaurants, the Catskills have plenty to offer. If the streams are frozen or the fish aren’t biting, try snowshoeing or cross-country skiing.

The Low Desert in California. Mountain and beaches aren’t your thing? How about a desert?  The low desert near Palm Springs features plenty of hip nightlife and cultural activities as well as breathtaking scenery. Follow in the footsteps of Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack who once made it their weekend home, or strike out on your own by visiting places like Joshua Tree National Park.

A good vacation helps you put your troubles behind you for a little while. The best ones will leave you refreshed, confident and ready to take those troubles head on. And if all else fails, just remember an old proverb: no matter what happens, travel gives you a story to tell, especially in the copy you write for your business.
